In this tutorial we will outline the steps required to
to import an X12 837 professional file into Command Line Translator
and produce a corrected X12 837 professional claims file.
In this tutorial we will be setting the translator up to send claims to a
single insurance carrier.
We will be configuring the translator to run a two pass import. The first
pass will be used to load and configure the Institutional, Carrier,
and submitter data within the system. The second pass will load the
X12 837 file into the system.
1)
Upon installation you will be asked if you are going
to use a Solo or Group database.
- Solo is for practices that receive their payments and file
their taxes under a Social Security Number.
- Group is for practices that receive their payments and file
their taxes under an Incorporation.
In this tutorial we will be selecting Group Practice.
2)
On the button bar within the product click the button with
a picture of a folder with an arrow pointing down.
This will display the download examples screen.
Click on the Get Example List button.
Select Example 32 and then click the Download and Install button.
Say Yes to any questions.
After the program restart several buttons will appear.

of the magnifying glass with the X12 on it.
When the job is complete the X12 837 file can be viewed using the
X12 viewer.
The X12 837 file created is called I0000001.TCF. It will be located in the
\C1A3F297 folder.
The EXAMPLE.CMD is the command/script file for the conversion.
The C1.BCU file is the Basic Conversion Utility Map and is the
first pass import mapping. The import/source file defined in the configuration
section of the this file is a file called INITLOAD.DBF.
INITLOAD.DBF is a single record database file that can be modified using
any DBF editor.
The C1.ACU file is the ANSI X12 Conversion Utility Map and is the import mapping.
The import/source file is defined in the configuration section of the this file.
In our C1.ACU file we have the SOURCEFILE=X5.DAT. The X5.DAT file is the
X12 837 file that we will be importing.
To use your own file copy over the existing X5.DAT file or change the name
of the source file in the C1.ACU. If you change the name it is recommended
that you keep the name of the file 8 characters or under and that you use
a three character extension. Do not use path or drives in the SOURCEFILE=
file name. Make sure that the file you specify is in the \C1A3F297 Folder.
The C1.INI is a file that may be used to control processing
and purge functions.
The C1.CFG is the outbound X12 mapping file.
